Larkin Community Hospital congratulates the Miami Neuroscience Center team on their two recent publications in the Spanish-language scientific journal, Federación Latinoamericana de Sociedades de Neurocirugía (FLANC).
The publications were coauthored by Drs. Jose E. Valerio, Neurosurgical Oncologist, Andres Alvarez-Pinzon, Neuro-Oncology Post-Doctoral Fellow, Sammie Coy, Neuro-Physicist and Aizik Wolf, Medical Director.
The first publication was a case report entitled, Endoscopic endonasal transsphenoid approach for resection of suprasellar hemorrhagic mass after Gamma Knife Radiosurgery: Case Report. To read the full text, please visit http://revistaflancneurocirugia.org/?q=node/74.
The second publication was about outcomes and experience with subdural peritoneal shunts in the management of subdural hematoma. To read the full text, please visit http://revistaflancneurocirugia.org/?q=node/72.
The Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin offers treatment of brain tumors with Gamma Knife, a non-invasive neurosurgical tool. This year, the MNC team has presented more than 20 clinical studies on the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, brain metastases, and other central nervous system disorders. The Miami Neuroscience Center team is passionate about improving the quality of life of patients and providing the very best treatment options.
Our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center presented at one of the most important meetings in the world for Neurosurgery, the 15th Interim Meeting of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), which took place in Rome on September 8-12, 2015.
The WFNS hosts a major meeting every two years, one of which is the World Congress and the other is the WFNS Interim Meeting.
After the success of the previous meetings of Porto de Galinhas, Brazil in 2011 and Nagoya, Japan in 2007, the 2015 Interim Meeting in Rome included an extensive scientific program and a stimulating social program, both of which were organized by the Italian Neurosurgical Society.
The meeting focused on the major breakthroughs and advances in Neurosurgery, from clinical practice to research, technology and innovation for a top-level scientific program, including many opportunities for young neurosurgeons through hands-on and educational courses.
Our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin gave 3 presentations and had an abstract published.
At the “Head and Injury Critical Care” session of the WFNS meeting, Dr. Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon presented “Outcomes and Experience with subdural peritoneal Shunts in the Management of subdural hematoma,” coauthored with Drs. Jose Valerio, Sammie Coy, Marcos Sanchez- Gonzalez, and Aizik Wolf.
At the “Neuro-oncology” session, Dr. Jose E. Valerio presented “Gamma Knife radiosurgery and chemotherapy in the primary treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme: A prospective, observational study,” coauthored with Drs. Andres Alvarez-Pinzon, Sammie Coy, Jennifer Escalante, Nitiah Lopez-Lima, Aizik Wolf.
At the “Functional” session, Dr. Jose E. Valerio and Dr. Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon presented “Percutaneous retrogasserian balloon compression for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia in Multiple Sclerosis,” authored in collaboration with Dr. Aizik Wolf, Dr. Sammie Coy, and Dr. Marcos Sanchez-Gonzalez.
We would like to congratulate our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin for their success and efforts.
Dr. Andres Alvarez-Pinzon has presented at the Neuro-Oncology Session of the 2015 Annual Summer Meeting of the Florida Neurosurgical Society (FNS) that took place on August 14-16 at The Brackers Hotel of Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Alvarez-Pinzon’s presentation, “Is Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Effective for the Treatment of Primary CNS Lymphoma in AIDS?: A Retrospective, cohort study” was coauthored with Jose E. Valerio, MD, FAANS, Sammie Coy, PhD, Nitiah Lopez-Lima, ARNP, Jennifer Escalante, MSc, PA-C, Marcos Sanchez-Gonzalez, MD, PhD, and Aizik Wolf, MD.
The Florida Neurosurgical Society was established in 1958 to unite qualified neurosurgeons in the State of Florida into a representative organization to further the aims and ideals of Neurosurgery and of the medical profession.
Dr. Jose Valerio from the Miami Neurosciences Center at Larkin gave 4 presentations at the XXIII Mexican Congress of Neurological Surgery, “For Excellence In Neurological Surgery”, held at the port of Mazatlan last August 2-7, 2015. 575 Mexican and foreign neurosurgeons attended the conference.
Dr. Valerio’s presentations in this important event were:
- Management of low grade tumors of the insula.
- Management of malignant gliomas.
- Neuronavigation in oncological neurosurgery.
- Resection of tumors in eloquent areas.
Congratulations, Dr. Valerio, on these successful presentations!
